Boys Varsity Lacrosse, lacrosse · Boys Lacrosse Takes Home District Title

Congratulations! On Friday night the Braves boys lacrosse team battled the Warriors of West Orange for the 2A District 5 Championship. Being down 4-7 with 2:37 left in the game, the Braves knew they had to get to work quickly or their season would be over. An extra man goal by senior Sam Schionning assisted by sophomore Luka Mellone brought the Braves within 2 with 2:28 left and lit the spark that ignited an epic comeback. A faceoff win by senior Zach Thomson gave the ball right back to the Braves. After a delay of game by the Warriors the Braves were back on extra man. Crisp passing from Sam Schionning found junior Henry Goeb open for a shot and score to bring the Braves within 1 with just 1:04 remaining. Zach Thomson was able to once again secure the next faceoff and Boone was back on offense. Junior Jackson Long found an opening in the Warriors’ defense and drove right down the middle to tie the game with just 36 seconds remaining. Zach Thompson once again did his job on the faceoff and the Braves were able to keep possession and their momentum. After quick ball movement, senior Brett Sweeney was able to find junior Sam Culley on the crease for a goal to put the Braves on top with 17 seconds remaining. The Warriors won the next faceoff, but the Braves defense was able to shut the door and end the game.

Boone’s next game will be the Region Semi-Final on Friday April 23 against Winter Park at Showalter Field at 7pm. Come out and cheer on your Braves to another victory!
