Boone Athletics would like to congratulate the following winter athletes on their outstanding performances in their respective sports. Seven Braves received recognition from fellow teams and coach in the East Metro Conference division.
Winter sports include wrestling, basketball, soccer, competitive cheer and girls weightlifting.
In wrestling, Lucas Moncrief, Noel Soto and Daniel Kelley all earned All-Metro awards for winning their weight classes in the Metro Tournament. Moncrief and Soto each won individual district titles as well and both qualified for the State Championships by placing 3rd in the regional competition. Each one earned their way to the medals podium at the end of that tournament by placing 6th in the state in their respective weight classes.
Girls soccer advanced to regional quarter-finals of the state tournament and was led by senior Cynthia Bagozzi, who earned her second straight 1st Team All-Metro selection. Bagozzi was also selected to Orlando Sentinel All-Area 3rd team to cap off a great career that included scoring 75 goals to go along with 41 assists during her 4-year stint on the Lady Braves varsity team.
In girls weightlifting, senior Alexis Tamvakis won Metro and District individual titles to go along with a 4th place finish in regionals to advance to the State Championships. Unfortunately, she had double-duty as a starter and captain of the girls soccer team and chose to participate in the regional soccer match which fell on the same night as the state tournament. Due to the fact that she was an accomplished athlete in both sports during the same season, she was named the Spectrum Sports Athlete of the Week during that timeframe.
In competitive cheerleading, senior Ashlyn Noble earned a 1st Team All-Metro nod as she led the squad to a state-qualifying run.
In boys basketball, senior Marlon Allen, who also was named a Spectrum Sports Athlete of the Week during the season, added a 1st Team All-Metro selection to his list of awards over the past two years.
And finally, in Lady Braves basketball, junior Maddie Morales was named to the 1st Team All-Metro squad as well as the Orlando Sentinel All-Area 2nd team.
